EvoSwitch Completes ISO 14001 Environmental Certification for Its AMS1 Data Center in Amsterdam

EvoSwitch, a provider of sustainable colocation services with data centers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Washington, DC, has received an ISO 14001:2004 certification for its Environmental Management Systems supporting the AMS1 data center in the Amsterdam Area, the Netherlands. Ernst & Young CertifyPoint acted as the external auditor for certification.

The ISO 14001:2004 standard sets out a process for the control and the continuous improvement of an Environmental Management System in support of an organization’s environmental policies.

“Since our start in 2007, we have operated our AMS1 data center 100% carbon-neutral,” said Eric Boonstra, Managing Director of EvoSwitch.

With sustainable data centers at the internet’s major global hubs, EvoSwitch is home to customers like Phoenix NAP, Liquid Web and Wikimedia. EvoSwitch also promotes sustainability and environmental awareness through their Green Fan Program, which provides customers with resources for their own client engagements.

“We are very pleased to now have this firm commitment to sustainability confirmed by independent outside experts”, said Andy Hoogeland, Quality Assurance Manager, EvoSwitch.

PUE = 1.2

“The commitment to sustainability is in our DNA at EvoSwitch,” added Eric Boonstra, Managing Director of EvoSwitch. “Since our start in 2007, we have operated our AMS1 data center 100% carbon-neutral and were first in the Netherlands to do so. All of our energy comes from renewable sources including wind, and our focus remains on utilizing as little energy as possible for our data center operations. We use outside air combined with adiabatic cooling for our suites in AMS1, which brings the daily PUE scores to slightly below 1.2 in our newest Halls, exceeding the current industry averages.”

The news follows the appointment of Patrick van der Wilt as EvoSwitch’s Commercial Director. Mr. Van der Wilt is a data center industry veteran who most recently served as Director Ecosystems Business Development EMEA at IO, a global provider of software-defined data center technology.
