Markley Group Opens New Data Center in Lowell, Massachusetts

Data center and cloud operator, Markley Group, has announced that phase one of its new data center facility in Lowell, Massachusetts is open and currently supporting colocation clients. Phase one entailed the initial build out of 50,000 square feet of highly-secured white and mechanical space for immediate use.

The Lowell facility is Markley Group’s second data center in New England and in addition to carriers originating at local POPs, would offer customers the benefits of three diverse dark fiber networks connecting it to Markley Group’s existing One Summer Street location in Boston. These connections provide Lowell customers with direct access to the more than eighty network providers at One Summer Street. 

One Summer Street is one of the largest and longest operating multi-tenant telecommunications and data center facilities in New England. The building’s 920,000 square feet of highly-secured white and mechanical space houses leading companies from all industries across the globe. Markley Group also owns and operates a globally scalable cloud platform, which supports the company’s elastic, dedicated on-demand Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud offerings.

350,000 Square Feet 

Just blocks from the Lowell Connector, the new 15 acre, highly secured data center campus would be easily accessible and will provide in excess of 350,000 square feet of space. Mission-critical infrastructure supporting the facility includes 2N UPS and generator, 2N cooling, multiple water supplies and connections to two utility substations.

The Lowell data center facility will also feature one thousand disaster recovery hot seats, providing a “secure and comfortable” workspace with network access and emergency backup systems that can be used to ensure that a business keeps running in the event that their primary workplace is unavailable.

Markley was successful in securing a twenty-year personal property tax exemption with the city and state for clients with equipment in Lowell. In June 2015, Markley Group purchased the 350,000 square foot building in Lowell, Massachusetts and began the process of converting it into a master-planned 50 Megawatt “mission-critical” data center facility working with Syska Hennessy Group as the project engineer.
