Prince William County, Virginia Surpasses 2 Million Square Feet of Data Center Space

Prince William County, Virginia, with Manassas as its capital city, has announced it has surpassed 2 million square feet of data center space. This milestone was achieved by the successful completion of 20 economic development projects that provide a combined total of $3.6 billion in capital investment. Prince William County is home to a mix of federal, national enterprise and colocation, multi-tenant data center industries.

According to a recent study by 451 Research, Northern Virginia will overtake the New York metro as the biggest multi-tenant data center market in the country by the beginning of next year.

Its prominent East Coast location has given rise to Prince William County’s emergence as an important Data Center Market in the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. Also, the County’s ability to expedite mission-critical and time-to-market requirements would provide international and national enterprises significant competitive advantages.

COPT DC-6, a multi-tenant 233,000 Sq. Ft. data center facility built in 2010, is one of Prince William County’s recent data center developments, located in Manassas.

“We’re delighted to have surpassed the 2 million square foot data center capacity threshold,” said Jeffrey Kaczmarek, Executive Director, Prince William County Department of Economic Development. “Data Center projects yield significant capital investment and highly-skilled, high-paying jobs to Prince William County.”

Data Center providers have come to recognize Prince William County’s unique value proposition, along with its strong fiber optic network, reliable power and attractive tax incentive programs which are among the lowest in the Mid-Atlantic region. The County’s abundant and favorable blend of large land parcels, multi-use zoned sites provides the opportunity to create security buffers, all within a low risk environment, which is an important consideration for data centers providers seeking a major East Coast presence.

Located less than 20 miles from the nation’s capital, Prince William County encompasses a total area of 348 miles and is the 2nd largest county in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
