PacketFabric Unveils Hourly Billing for 100Gbps Data Center Interconnection

On-demand connectivity provider for the enterprise cloud core, PacketFabric, has released hourly billing for data center interconnect (DCI) backbone virtual circuits (VCs), at speeds up to 100Gbps across nearly 200 global Points-of-Presence (PoPs).

Clients of PacketFabric may now establish hourly backbone virtual circuits (VCs) on demand using the PacketFabric site and API. They may also dynamically supply burstable bandwidth on an hourly basis, which is an improvement over term-based backbone VCs.

“The cloud is what happens to traditional infrastructure when you automate and make it hyper-consumable,” said Anna Claiborne, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Product Officer, PacketFabric. “At PacketFabric, our mission is to turn the inflexible slog of getting premium-grade network connections into a rocket-fueled network multi-tool, just like interaction you expect from cloud providers. Hourly backbone VCs up to 100Gbps, deployed in minutes, are a first. This new capability is a significant step forward in pushing the networking industry towards the vision of true bandwidth on demand.”

For Migration, Backup, Disaster Recovery

Hourly backbone bandwidth may provide the flexibility and cost-effectiveness necessary for one-time IT projects such as data center migrations, as well as asymmetric data transfers required by backup and disaster recovery use cases.

Long-term, inflexible connectivity services, on the other hand, may force businesses to either waste time and money to achieve the speeds required for initial backups and recovery, or risk IT resiliency and business continuity by using lower-cost bandwidth to support incremental backups, which can result in unacceptably long recovery times.

IT and digital operations teams may automate bursting over term bandwidth rates up to port speeds and pay on an hourly basis with backbone VC bursting capabilities. Bursting can tailor bandwidth levels to match cyclical, occasional, or unexpected demand patterns without requiring a long-term commitment to the maximum bandwidth peak, resulting in optimal performance and cost-effective network operations.

Bandwidth bursting has applications in a wide range of industries, including transferring daily files in media and entertainment production, data-intensive updates to MRI and other healthcare systems, and quarterly or seasonal variations in IT demand for retail, financial, and hospitality businesses.

According to PacketFabric, its backbone VC bandwidth pricing is competitive and reasonable on an hourly basis, with long-haul VCs accessible in North America for under $1 per hour. Pay-per-hour private optical WAN services may provide additional options for IT and digital operations teams.
