Hybrid cloud specialist and UK edge computing platform provider, Pulsant, has finalized the acquisition of a Manchester colocation data center and related clients from global network services provider M247. The acquisition would complement Pulsant’s geographic expansion strategy, allowing the firm to extend its edge platform to the city and the North-West. This data center is located in one of the fastest growing IT hubs in the UK and Europe.

The 6,500 sq. ft. colocation data center, which is housed in a gated complex in central Manchester, has a power capacity of roughly 1MW, with plans to expand and modernize the facility. The facility adds to Pulsant’s current network of strategically positioned data centers by providing “excellent” transportation and connectivity, as well as a LINX Manchester Point-of-Presence (PoP) on site.
The data center expansion is part of Pulsant’s ambitious growth strategy and its first acquisition since receiving investment from Antin Infrastructure Partners in July 2021. The acquisition comprises the data center as well as the transfer of 40 clients and all site employees from M247, which will become a significant Pulsant client and continue to utilize the data center for their own purposes. Pulsant will attempt to extend its entire range of colocation and hybrid cloud services to new businesses in the area, in addition to providing services to existing clients from the new data center.
“I am very excited to be bring the Pulsant edge computing platform to the Manchester market and wider North-West region,” said Rob Coupland, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Pulsant. “The acquisition of such a well-established and high-quality facility is an important step in our strategy to bring the benefits of edge computing to every business across the UK.”
Edge Data Centers UK
Through the construction of a countrywide edge computing infrastructure in the UK, Pulsant is committing to bringing edge computing to every company in every UK region. Pulsant’s core data center, network, and cloud services are included in the platform, allowing data to be processed near to edge devices and bridging the gap between centralized platforms and micro-edge for UK enterprises.
“We are delighted to be working with Pulsant. Their extensive experience in operating regional data centers makes them uniquely placed to take over the data center,” said Darryl Edwards, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at M247. “We are looking forward to developing our relationship through the new strategic supply partnership with Pulsant to maintain a full set of connectivity and cloud-based services to our customers.”
Pulsant already has a network of ten regional edge data centers around the United Kingdom, where it provides secured, scalable, and resilient cloud, colocation, and networking services. Pulsant has added Manchester to its growing network of interconnected regional edge data centers, which includes locations in Milton Keynes, Croydon, Newcastle, Edinburgh, and Reading.
