RagingWire, one of the largest data center providers in the U.S. and an NTT Communications group company, has commenced construction of a 140,000 square feet colocation facility with 14MW of available power as part of its Ashburn, Virginia campus. This two-story building, known as VA2, nearly doubles the size of RagingWire’s Ashburn, Virginia data center campus to 290,000 square feet.
This data center expansion would reflect a robust demand for RagingWire‘s high-density power colocation solutions and strong data center absorption rates in Northern Virginia. First customer installations are planned for the end of 2015.
“These are exciting times at RagingWire, and our sales pipeline is growing extraordinarily fast,” said Doug Adams, Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer at RagingWire. “We are expanding our capacity in both Virginia and California by bringing on new data centers, as well as planning to enter new markets in the United States to ensure that we have the supply to meet customer demand.”
The new colocation facility has dual fiber entrances with broad access to telecommunications carriers and inter-campus connectivity. The data center design features RagingWire’s patented 2N+2 architecture, which would deliver 100% availability of high density power and an operational model that exceeds the Tier IV standards of the Uptime Institute by being both concurrently maintainable and fault tolerant for power delivery even during a utility outage.
1 Million Square Feet
RagingWire opened its first data center in Ashburn, Virginia in July 2012, a 150,000 square feet colocation facility called VA1, and has purchased 78 acres of land in Ashburn with designs to build upwards of 2 million square feet of data center space. VA2 will be fully integrated with VA1 and networked with RagingWire’s 680,000 square feet data center campus in Sacramento, California.
The new Ashburn colocation facility includes a power infrastructure providing densities beyond 30kW per cabinet. When VA2 opens, RagingWire‘s total data center footprint in the United States will be nearly 1 million square feet.
