Open source software vendor Red Hat has announced the launch of its ManageIQ community with the availability of ManageIQ’s fully open-sourced code repository and the first builds of the open source project. The ManageIQ community aims to provide the industry’s leading open source cloud management platform with advanced governance and automation capabilities.
The ManageIQ community brings together developers, cloud hosting service providers, systems integrators, researchers and other users to collaborate and drive innovation in the management of OpenStack and open hybrid clouds.
ManageIQ offers hybrid cloud governance and automation capabilities, as well as the ability to build development and test clouds based on OpenStack and other virtualization platforms.
Hybrid cloud workloads
Users now have more choice to automate and orchestrate their hybrid cloud workloads on OpenStack, Amazon, KVM, Microsoft, and VMware technologies. In addition to automating a broad set of hybrid cloud workloads, ManageIQ would have significant benefits for developers and administrators exploring the world of DevOps.
Since plans for the ManageIQ community were announced in May 2014, several additional partners have joined the community, including BBVA, Cloudsoft, Gandi.net, ICE Systems, and VMTurbo. In 2012, Red Hat acquired the open source platform from ManageIQ, Inc., which currently serves as the basis for its Red Hat CloudForms open hybrid cloud management product.
Acquisition eNovance
This week, Red Hat also signed a definitive agreement to acquire eNovance, a French provider of open source cloud computing services with a global presence. Red Hat has agreed to acquire eNovance, a privately held company, for approximately 50 million Euros in cash and 20 million Euros in shares of Red Hat common stock.
The addition of eNovance’s systems integration capabilities and engineering talent is aimed at meeting growing demand for RedHat’s enterprise OpenStack consulting, design and deployment. Founded in 2008, eNovance helps cloud hosting service providers and large-scale private enterprises build and deploy cloud infrastructures quickly and cost effectively. Additionally, they help leading organizations manage a multitude of customer web applications on many of the world’s largest public clouds.
Like Red Hat, eNovance is at the forefront of the OpenStack community. The company is one of the top 10 contributors to the upstream OpenStack project. The company has more than 150 global customers, including Alcatel-Lucent, AXA, Cisco, Cloudwatt, and Ericsson. The company has offices in Paris; Montreal; and Bangalore, India.
