Umatilla, Oregon is going to be included in Sabey Data Centers’ expansion plans as a designer, builder, and operator of colocation data centers. Sabey has acquired 60 acres of land to construct a cutting-edge data center complex that will have a capacity of more than 100 megawatts (MW). It is anticipated that Sabey Data Centers (SDC) will commence construction in the Umatilla, Oregon area in the year 2024.
SDC Umatilla will feature Sabey’s “hyper-efficient data center designs.” These data center designs were purpose-built to serve the dense hyperscale and business deployments of today. A critical IT load of more than 100 MW will be supported by the 700,000 square foot data center site.
As of the year 2020, Oregon had a renewable utilities power fuel mix that was 40 percent, with the goal of reaching 100 percent by the year 2040. Sabey will acquire or invest in carbon-free energy sources in time to reach the company’s net-zero aim by 2029 in Umatilla and throughout the SDC portfolio. This is 11 years earlier than the target that Oregon has set for itself.
U.S. West Coast Reach
“Sabey is dedicated to its ambition to create cutting-edge, ultra-efficient data centers in areas such as Umatilla, which get us closer to achieving our objective of operating with net-zero carbon emission by the year 2029,” said Rob Rockwood, President of Sabey Data Centers. “Our data centers combine that level of sustainability with low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) throughout the entire data center lifecycle, reliability, and connectivity. And as we have done in each and every one of our markets, we will staff our campuses with men and women from the local community who share our vision of building opportunity alongside the best data centers in the world.”
The new data center campus will provide low latency connections to metropolitan regions on the West Coast, and many different connection options. It would benefit from its closeness to west coast undersea cable networks.
“We are excited to welcome Sabey into our community,” said Dave Stockdale, the City Manager of Umatilla. “We are delighted to support this endeavor in Umatilla based on their track record of providing advanced data center services through a highly sustainable operations model. Sabey‘s commitment to support some of our major projects is a testimony to their reputation as an integrated community partner, and we look forward to having our uniquely qualified local workforce join their team of professionals.”
