Scala Data Centers Deploys Thermal Management Solutions with Vertiv

Vertiv

With Vertiv, a worldwide supplier of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, Scala Data Centers, a sustainable data center provider in Latin America, has inked a substantial three-year strategic deal. For its data center campuses in Brazil, Chile, and Colombia, Scala will purchase cutting-edge thermal management technology solutions from Vertiv under the terms of this agreement.

This agreement would illustrate the rising demand for cutting-edge digital infrastructure solutions in the area. It is one of Vertiv’s biggest contracts in Latin America.

Vertiv will provide 364 fan coil Computer Room Air Handling (CRAH) units and 58 chillers to Scala Hyperscale Data Centers as part of the first phase, providing a cooling capacity of almost 130MW over six locations. Approximately 93MW of this capacity will be used by the Brazilian facilities, while the remaining 38MW will be used by the Chilean data centers. The support will be expanded in the final phase to a total of eleven data center locations spread throughout Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. Modern technology used by Vertiv would assure energy efficiency and include the newest developments in sustainability.

The choice of free cooling chillers with adiabatic solutions, which is in line with Scala’s sustainability policy and commitment to maintaining the lowest Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) portfolio in Latin America, is one noteworthy feature of the deal. These solutions would adhere to green standards while providing dynamic efficiency for numerous Scala data halls. Furthermore, with backup cooling units for each main unit, Vertiv’s thermal management systems would provide business continuity for Scala’s clients.

Data centers now being built in Latin America will host the initial phase of installation. Two key campuses in Brazil will employ the Vertiv technologies, including Tamboré in Barueri (SP), which is probably the biggest data center campus in Latin America with a secured power capacity of 600MW. The technology will be used at Chile’s facility Lampa data centers, with a completed capacity of 120MW. Campus Lampa is near to Santiago. The early investments will also help Scala maintain its data facilities in Colombia. Scala has spent more than 6 billion Brazilian Real in several initiatives since its founding in 2020, demonstrating its dedication to advancing digital transformation.

Collaboration was key to the success of this alliance, with engineers from Scala and Vertiv closely collaborating throughout Latin America and at Vertiv’s production facilities in Slovakia and Italy. A dedicated manufacturing line created just for Scala as a result of this collaborative effort demonstrates the dedication to tailoring solutions to fit the unique demands of Scala and its customers’ crucial digital infrastructure requirements. Professionals from both firms’ engineering, research and development (R&D), assembly line, and product testing departments worked together to create a completely unique project that supports Scala’s mission.

The trust and chemistry built up between the technical teams of both businesses, according to Scala’s CEO and co-founder Marcos Peigo, eventually led to Vertiv being selected as a long-term partner for thermal management solutions. Mr. Peigo stressed Scala’s commitment to provide cutting-edge solutions that put performance and efficiency first, establishing the business as a client’s trusted adviser. “Scala makes significant strategic purchases in advance to prevent supply chain problems, reducing risks and ensuring smooth operations while ultimately providing value to its clients.” Peigo further highlighted his confidence in Vertiv’s capability to help Scala in its objective to create and manage the infrastructure required to advance digitalization in Latin American countries.

For Vertiv CEO and Americas president, Giordano Albertazzi, the agreement with Scala Data Centers would open a new age in the Latin American Data Center market. “We are excited to take this first step in a journey that we expect to last years, and will support the growth of Scala Data Centers in the region,” said Mr. Albertazzi. “Vertiv partners with Scala, leveraging our industry-leading expertise and state-of-art solutions to support Scala’s dynamic growth. Vertiv’s solutions will be tailored to support Scala Data Centers’ strategies of energy efficiency, sustainability, and performance. We see ourselves working shoulder to shoulder with Scala’s team and leadership to further strengthen our mutual brand value in the Latin America market.”

Another strategic point of the exclusive agreement is that Scala and its customers will be supported by a dedicated Vertiv Customer Service manager at each Scala data center campus in Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. Vertiv’s expert service engineers would deliver a proactive preventive maintenance program for maximum reliability and efficiency of Scala’s thermal management systems. In addition, Vertiv will manage spare parts and equipment inventory at Scala’s campuses, reducing the time needed to complete service requirements.

“We are looking forward to partnering with Scala Data Centers in its mission to support digital transformation in Latin America and the business continuity of its customers,” concluded Mr. Albertazzi.
