ServiceNow Unveils Cloud Observability Solution for Cloud-Native Infrastructure

Digital workflow company ServiceNow has introduced ServiceNow Cloud Observability, an end-to-end observability solution for cloud applications. This new offering, powered by acquired observability leader Lightstep, would allow organizations to effectively manage the growing scale and complexity of cloud and cloud-native infrastructure while providing comprehensive visibility across the entire enterprise within a unified solution.

With IDC predicting the observability market to reach $9.08 billion by 2025, ServiceNow Cloud Observability addresses the need for better monitoring, management, and maintenance of digital business applications as enterprises transition to cloud-native infrastructure.

Traditional legacy or point solutions would often fall short, either being cost-prohibitive, solving only a portion of the problem, or requiring specific skill sets. ServiceNow Cloud Observability aims to bridge these gaps by combining operational monitoring and observability data, offering a holistic end-to-end solution for IT performance.

Ben Sigelman, General Manager of Cloud Observability and co-founder of Lightstep, explained that managing cloud and cloud-native applications in enterprise environments has historically been complex, leading organizations to invest in multiple observability tools. This fragmented visibility would create challenges for IT teams in resolving issues. ServiceNow Cloud Observability addresses this problem by providing a “unified, scalable, cloud-native” observability solution integrated with the Now Platform. This would enable digital businesses to seamlessly integrate observability into their essential operations.

What sets ServiceNow Cloud Observability apart is its ability to consolidate critical telemetry data, including logs, metrics, and traces. By bringing this data together, teams would gain improved security, streamlined workflows, enhanced collaboration, better customer and employee experiences, and a higher return on investment (ROI).

Additionally, ServiceNow Cloud Observability introduces two new capabilities. The first is Cloud-Native Logging, which leverages Era Software’s technology to provide fully integrated, scalable log management capabilities for cloud-native apps. The second is the Service Graph Connector, enabling organizations to pull data from cloud frameworks like OpenTelemetry and Kubernetes directly into ServiceNow IT Operations Management (ITOM), eliminating the need for additional tooling and facilitating faster insights into cloud application performance.

ServiceNow has been strategically building towards the launch of ServiceNow Cloud Observability through strategic acquisitions, including Lightstep in 2021 and Era Software in 2022. Recent product updates, such as OpenTelemetry portability and Unified Query Language, have further enhanced ServiceNow’s visibility capabilities across the enterprise, according to the company.

ServiceNow Cloud Observability is now generally available, offering businesses a “comprehensive and scalable” solution to enhance their cloud application management, and improve operational efficiency.
