The owners of Arsys Internet have agreed a deal with United Internet’s subsidiary 1&1 Internet AG, concerning the full acquisition of Arsys by 1&1. In the course of the transaction, Arsys Internet has been valued EUR 140 million. The purchase is to be settled in cash.
Arsys Internet employs 290 people and is one of the leading players on Spain’s web hosting and cloud hosting market with over 150,000 customers, annual sales of around EUR 40 million, and EBITDA of some EUR 15 million. Arsys Internet’s products are served from the company’s own two data centers in Spain. Since 2008, investment firms The Carlyle Group and Mercapital are the majority shareholders of Arsys Internet, with 79% of the capital.
The Arsys Internet Brand
Arsys will continue to be run by current management team as an independent company. In the future, United Internet will therefore be represented on the Spanish market by both the 1&1 and Arsys brands. The financial transaction of the acquisition is expected to be completed over the next few days.
“Whereas in the past we proved that we can achieve rapid organic growth on the Spanish market, we are now expanding our presence in a second stage with the acquisition of Arsys,” said Ralph Dommermuth, CEO of United Internet AG. “At the same time, we are strengthening ourselves in Spain with the addition of skilled staff, an established brand, and a large client base.”
