STACK Breaks Ground on 100MW Data Center Campus in Northern Virginia

Stack INFRASTRUCTURE SVY02 - Ribbon Cutting

The latest hyperscale campus of STACK Infrastructure, a worldwide developer and operator of data centers, has begun construction in the heart of Prince William County, one of Northern Virginia’s most sought-after locales. The campus’s first building is expected to be completed in Q1 2024.

The 40-acre location will bring almost 100MW of dedicated and scalable electricity from Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) to STACK’s portfolio of seven data center facilities in Northern Virginia.

With the intention of expanding the complex to include numerous data centers backed by a 300MW substation, construction will start with a 36MW facility. According to STACK, the scalable campus is a fantastic opportunity for businesses looking to secure capacity in this crucial market with limited land and electricity.

Almost 1GW of DC Capacity

“Expanding our presence in the heart of Prince William County represents a strategic approach of continuing to deliver scalable capacity where it matters most,” said Matthew VanderZanden, Chief Operating Officer at STACK Americas. “Powered with 100% renewable energy, STACK’s new campus offers a sustainable solution and allows our clients the ability to grow quickly in the world’s largest data center market.”

Due to STACK’s consistent expansion announcements during the past four years, the company’s footprint in Northern Virginia has significantly grown. In one of the most limited data center marketplaces on the planet, STACK has almost 1GW of capacity that is now available and under construction. Following a 216MW Ashburn campus announcement made earlier in 2022, plans for this most recent expansion were initially revealed in April.

STACK has announced expansion in the top data center markets around the world over the last three months, including a 230MW campus with five buildings in the heart of Phoenix, an 80MW hyperscale campus in Frankfurt, Germany, a 48MW facility in Seoul, Korea, and numerous data centers in Australia.

One of the biggest private data center operators globally, STACK now has presence in 23 markets spread throughout the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions.
