InfoZen, a Bethesda, MD based cloud broker and systems integrator providing IT services to the public sector, has completed the first phase of NASA’s WESTPrime web migration to a new cloud hosting based open source content management system powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS).
InfoZen successfully migrated 110 NASA websites and applications, including NASA.gov, and over one million pieces of content to the new cloud hosting environment in just 22 weeks. The move would save NASA more than 25 percent in monthly operations and maintenance costs, and streamline their application modernization within a secured, FedRAMP-compliant environment.
With more than 1,500 public-facing websites and 2,000 intranets, extranets and applications, NASA.gov is just a small component of the web infrastructure that NASA has modernized.
Rapid application deployment
InfoZen’s LaunchRAMP Enterprise Cloud Broker Solution delivered the methodologies required to complete the project within the aggressive timeframe, achieving rapid application deployment and migration within the AWS hosting environment.
“WESTPrime provides a cloud hosting based environment for NASA to efficiently and securely deliver content and applications to employees, contractors, researchers, and partners across the U.S. and around the world,” said Roopangi Kadakia, NASA Web Services Executive. “NASA is happy to have this initial migration completed and looks forward to leveraging the WESTPrime contract for future rapid deployments of web applications in the cloud.”
The new cloud hosting based infrastructure will enable NASA.gov to rapidly scale to handle the 600,000 unique visits per day and 140 million unique visits per year that the site receives. To ensure the highest levels of security, InfoZen worked with NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to develop a comprehensive risk-based cloud security program based on NASA, FISMA and FedRAMP standards and requirements.
