Data center owner/operator T5 Data Centers has hired Tom Mertz as Chief Commercial Officer. He will be in charge of the company’s facility management and construction services divisions, among other service divisions. Tom Mertz most recently held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Canara, a service provider for the data center sector that is now known as CPG Beyond.

Mr. Mertz joins T5 Data Centers with 28 years of leadership expertise in a variety of mission-critical industries. Mertz joined Lee Technologies in 2002 and played a key role in the company’s transformation from a products-based sales organization into a top solutions provider with a mission-critical industry emphasis. While QTS was becoming a publicly traded firm, he served on the executive team as Executive Vice President for their Enterprise segment, where he supervised wholesale leasing for major enterprise and hyperscale clients. During its rebranding to CPG, Canara under his direction experienced unprecedented sales growth.
“I have worked with T5 and their highly skilled leadership team for many years as a provider of services. T5 has continued with tremendous growth while never wavering in their commitment to sustainable standards, offering a full suite of services and state-of-the-art facilities,” said Tom Mertz. “Customers appreciate both real estate and full lifecycle services – from development to operations. As an owner/operator, T5 sets those standards, which is another unique advantage that I know resonates with the marketplace.”
Commitment to Sustainability
“Tom’s leadership is unsurpassed and our customers and partners will benefit from his experience in mission critical operations across our entire organization,” said Pete Marin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at T5 Data Centers. “Tom brings a commitment to sustainability as well, which is a fundamental pillar of T5’s strategy. His innovative contributions throughout our facilities management and construction services divisions will continue to differentiate T5 as a true partner to our customers and a leader in full lifecycle services.”
Mertz holds a Bachelor of Science in Public and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University with additional leadership training at Emory’s Goizueta Business School and George Mason University.
