The customizer is a section that allows you to make changes to your theme. While all of the functions in the customizer are found in other places within the WordPress dashboard, the customizer groups many of them together so you do not have to keep bouncing around the dashboard.
To get to the customizer, first log into the WordPress admin dashboard like I have done here.
Next, click on the Appearance tab from the left hand sidebar menu.
Now, click on Customize to open the customizer.
You can see a preview of your site on the right and a list of tabs on the left hand side.
The one we are going to focus on in this video is the Menus tab. This was named Navigation in the previous version. Go ahead and click on the Menus tab,
The first area is the new addition. You have the ability to either modify existing menus or create a new one without having to go to the Menus area of the dashboard.
To create a new menu, click on Add a Menu.
Next, give the menu a name.
Now you can assign items to your menu.
Next, you set their order by clicking Reorder. Use the up and down arrows to assign the order they display.
The right and left arrows allow you nest or un-nest items under one another.
Once you are happy, click Done.
You can also delete a menu here if you no longer need it.
You can set the menu location here if you like. Although Primary Menu is standard, you may see other options depending on your theme.
Lastly you can set new top-level pages to be added to the menu automatically.
Once you are satisfied, click on the back arrow to return to the previous tab.
The previous functionality of the menus section in the customizer is still here as well. Click on the Menu Locations tab to see it.
Here is the section you are likely used to seeing in the customizer. You can now select any of the menus you have created to display on your site.
That is how the Customizer Menus tab has changed within the new WordPress 4.3 release.
