Virtualization and cloud infrastructure vendor VMware has announced the general availability of vCloud Suite 5.5 and VMware vSphere with Operations Management 5.5, featuring enhanced availability and performance capabilities to support customers’ business critical applications as well as new workloads.
VMware vCloud Suite 5.5 enables customers to build and operate vSphere-based private clouds based on a software-defined data center architecture. The suite features VMware vSphere 5.5, which introduces new capabilities and enhancements across compute, storage, availability and backup to offer customers the best platform for all their applications.

VMware vSphere with Operations Management 5.5 is the latest release of the vSphere virtualization platform with insight into workload capacity and health. vSphere with Operations Management enables customers to optimize their environment through integrated capacity planning while proactively monitoring and maintaining overall performance of their environment. The latest release of the platform takes advantage of VMware vSphere 5.5 to help customers achieve greater application performance, application-aware availability and support for Big Data applications.
VMware Virtual SAN beta program
Additionally, VMware has announced VMware Virtual SAN is now available for download and trial via a public beta program. VMware Virtual SAN is a new software-defined storage solution that extends VMware vSphere to pool compute and direct-attached storage. VMware Virtual SAN clusters server disks and flash to produce simple, high-performance, resilient shared storage designed for virtual machines.
