Global web hosting provider Namecheap has revealed the most popular TLDs and domain registration trends for 2021 in an exclusive industry report. This paper contains domain registration data from 2021 as well as 2020.
On March 15, 1985, the first .com domain name was registered. Three decades later, it is still the most popular domain name on the Internet, with over three million registered with Namecheap in 2021.
.xyz is the second most popular TLD in 2021, with over 650,000 registrations this year.
.me, the first non-gTLD on the list, has experienced a surge in registrations in 2021, landing in fifth place among the most registered TLDs. As a result, .me is the year’s most popular ccTLD.
