WHD.usa 2015 – Jimmy Wales – The fight for free knowledge for everyone

Emily and Jimmy will discuss in this exciting Q&A session general Internet issues of freedom and knowledge, as well as Jimmy’s new project, the web hosting service Wikia with 134 Million visitors a month. It’s free of charge, deriving income from advertising, and publishes all user-provided content under copyleft licenses.

Sometimes called a “Web Celeb”, Jimmy Wales is a U.S. Internet entrepreneur, wiki pioneer, and technology visionary, who is best known as the founder of Wikipedia. His slogan “Free knowledge for free minds” sounds like the enhancement of a motto of the Age of Enlightenment. It emphasizes the freedom of speech, a topic journalist and author Emily Parker also had very much focused on with her book “Now I Know Who My Comrades Are: Voices From the Internet Underground”.
