Wipro and Cisco Unveil Managed Private 5G-as-a-Service Solution

Wipro Limited

In a collaborative effort, Wipro Limited and Cisco have introduced a “groundbreaking” managed private 5G-as-a-Service solution aimed at accelerating enterprise digital transformation. Technology services and consultancy company Wipro joined forces with Cisco to offer corporate users an efficient integration of private 5G networks with their existing LAN, WAN, and cloud infrastructure, leading to improved business outcomes.

The rise of 5G and complementary technologies is revolutionizing work dynamics and driving digital transformation across both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructures. With the managed private 5G-as-a-Service solution from Cisco and Wipro, organizations can reap the benefits of a private 5G network without the need to invest in purchasing, operating, and maintaining one.

This as-a-service solution would not only minimize the risks associated with initial capital expenditure (Capex) but also expedite technology adoption, as Wipro and Cisco assume the technical, operational, and financial risks of implementing the solution.

Masum Mir, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Provider Mobility, Cisco Networking, highlighted the versatility of private 5G networks, stating, “Private 5G is already enabling connectivity for a wide range of use cases in factories, supply chains, university and enterprise campuses, entertainment venues, hospitals, and more.”

By leveraging the benefits of 5G, IoT, Edge, and Wi-Fi6 technologies, Wipro and Cisco claim to have collaboratively developed a user-friendly private 5G solution that promises to enhance client outcomes.

Private 5G Service Controlled by the Cloud

At the core of the managed private 5G solution lies Cisco’s mobile core technology and Internet of Things (IoT) portfolio, which encompasses IoT sensors and gateways, device management software, monitoring tools, and dashboards. Wipro assumes the responsibility of efficiently developing, operating, and managing the solution on behalf of the clients. In support of the alliance, Wipro has established a dedicated private 5G lab to facilitate the development, testing, and demonstration of industrial use cases.

Jo Debecker, Global Head of Wipro FullStride Cloud, emphasized the strong foundation of secure network-building experience shared by Wipro and Cisco. Debecker stated, “We are both committed to the cooperation and providing our clients with a private, secure 5G service that is controlled by the cloud. It offers the most advantages while using the fewest resources and spending the least money since it is an as-a-service solution.”

Lourdes Charles, Vice President, 5G / Connectivity Services at Wipro, expressed excitement about the addition of managed private 5G solutions for business clients within the longstanding strategic partnership between Cisco and Wipro. Charles affirmed, “Private 5G integration will put organizations on the cusp of a new revolution. The system aims to streamline the user experience by verifying operational Service-Level Agreements, managing the solution’s lifecycle, and supporting mission-critical use cases. Wipro, through its 5G Def-i platform, remains dedicated to assisting clients in establishing their private 5G networks by providing top-tier technology at a competitive price point.”

The launch of the managed private 5G-as-a-Service solution by Wipro and Cisco would mark a significant milestone in enterprise digital transformation. As businesses seek to capitalize on the potential of 5G, this collaborative effort would promise to empower organizations, enabling them to embrace the future of connectivity while minimizing risks and maximizing operational efficiencies.
