Data Holdings, a data center operator from Wisconsin, has acquired Stack41, a Milwaukee and Minneapolis-based provider of data centers as a service (DCaaS) for an undisclosed sum of money. The acquisition will increase Data Holdings’ team size, geographic reach, and skills. It would be crucial to the company’s future development as a strategic partner to clients that want ongoing access to their business applications.

Since its establishment in 2014, Stack41 has served the data center’s colocation clients as a services partner out of Data Holdings’ Milwaukee facility. Additionally, the company offers hosting and data backup services out of a Minneapolis data center. Businesses in the Midwest can access Stack41’s two facilities for data center services. As Data Holdings, they will continue to provide customer support in both locations.

“As a long-time partner of Data Holdings, we couldn’t be more pleased about the acquisition of Stack41 as their expertise, knowledge and exceptional customer service will further enhance our operations in Milwaukee,” said Kip Ritchie, President at Data Holdings. “By partnering with Stack41, we now offer a suite of fully outsourced data center services, in addition to our premier colocation. Customers can also choose from a hybrid mix of services to fit their need at our facility, at their home location, or both.”

IoT Sensor, Network, Software Capabilities

Data Holdings would now be able to provide its clients with a new, comprehensive services portfolio through the merger, including on-site data center management, security, cloud solutions, data storage, container hosting, and business continuity services. Additionally, the combined company will make use of Stack41’s vast IoT sensor, network, and software capabilities in projects that support end markets as various as manufacturing, water treatment, and real estate development.

“Our goal was to create a comprehensive product offering consisting of a superb, resilient brick and mortar data center, allied with the most capable hardware neutral, business IT applications team available,” added Mr. Ritchie. “The Stack41 team of experts has made that possible.”

At Data Holdings, the Stack41 team will fill a number of new positions, including general manager, vice president of business development, network engineer, and technician for network operations center.

“The partnership of our two companies delivers exactly what companies want and need – services that are easy to consume, highly scalable and flexible with dynamic tools to order, manage and maintain,” said Ryan Brooks, co-founder of Stack41, and Data Holding’s new General Manager. “As data services and security providers, we look forward to delivering those services to Data Holding’s customers. By joining the Data Holdings team, we will have the facility and bandwidth to deliver some exciting new capabilities and we look forward to rolling those out in the coming months.”

Data Holdings is a subsidiary of the Potawatomi Business Development Corporation and is centrally located in Milwaukee’s near west side. Built in 2013, the facility is designed, constructed, and operates with Tier IV electrical attributes, Tier III mechanicals and as a LEED Gold certified facility.
