With New Funding, Crate.io Plans to Expand Its Cloud-Hosted Database Services

Crate.io, the creator and provider of CrateDB, a purpose-built time series database, has received an additional $10 million in investment. Existing Crate.io investors such as Draper Esprit, VITO Ventures, and Flatz & Partners AG, as well as a few private investors, took part. Crate.io has raised about $31 million in total investment now.

“This new round of funding enables us to accelerate our commercialization efforts. We will focus on expanding across several verticals where Crate.io database technologies are key enablers of digital transformation,” said Eva Schönleitner, CEO of Crate.io. “In addition, we will be broadening our developer and partner community ecosystem. Industry 4.0 initiatives require a ‘team effort.’ Combining forces with leading technology providers and implementers will be essential in order to enable customers to realize the expected operational and technological benefits. SQL Database

CrateDB is a completely open-source time series SQL database from Crate.io that is engineered to grow rapidly while capable of ingesting and querying millions of data points per second to provide companies with actionable insights in real time.

CrateDB Cloud is a fully managed CrateDB-as-a-service solution from Crate.io for clients that require hands-on CrateDB maintenance and optimization. CrateDB Edge, a new product from Crate.io, would extend “the power” of CrateDB Cloud to clients’ distant and offline locations.

“The growing importance of machine data analytics and AI demand specifically built data technologies,” said Christian Lutz, co-founder and President, Crate.io. “A distributed SQL architecture that scales horizontally in any cloud and edge enables customers and developers to capture and process the volume of machine data in real-time and at scale, accelerating their success in implementing digital transformation projects.”

Crate.io was founded in June 2013. The company is based in Berlin and Dornbirn, Austria, with offices in San Francisco and remote friendly. Crate.io intends to provide total flexibility to digital transformation by making CrateDB available in the cloud, at the edge, and on-premises.
