Zayo, a global supplier of fiber-based communications solutions, has planned to deploy more than 140 kilometers of additional fiber routes in the Greater Toronto Area by the end of 2022 to accommodate the region’s rising demand for connectivity. This is the first of numerous network expansion initiatives Zayo plans in Toronto over the next few years.

Toronto is a large hub for financials, employing roughly three-quarters of the region’s financial services workers and accounting for 38 percent of the country’s corporate headquarters and 18.5 percent of GDP. The city is Canada’s technological capital, stated Zayo, now rated third in North America in terms of population and quickly expanding.

In the Toronto region, Zayo’s dense fiber network now links more than 100 data centers and 1,400 buildings. With almost 14,000 buildings within walking distance of Zayo’s network, the company hopes to connect many more in the coming quarters.

“Toronto continues to lead and support key business sectors both nationally and globally, accelerating the need for reliable connectivity solutions,” said Roger Brulotte, Principal, Senior Sales Manager at Zayo Group. “Zayo is committed to supporting the fast-paced growth of Toronto’s diverse industries and the connectivity essential to our clients’ growth and success.”

“Toronto continues to lead and support key business sectors both nationally and globally, accelerating the need for reliable connectivity solutions,” said Roger Brulotte, Principal, Senior Sales Manager at Zayo Group.

In addition, Zayo is now offering a new product to new and existing consumers in the Toronto area. Shielded Internet Access combines several of Zayo’s most popular services, including Dedicated Internet Access, DDoS Protection, and CloudLink, into a single package that will be competitively priced versus existing market benchmarks.

“Zayo is helping usher in a new era for Canada’s fastest growing business and technology community,” said Toronto Mayor, John Tory. “The Toronto Region relies on accessible, high-quality connectivity infrastructure to support our key sector needs. We appreciate our partnership with Zayo and look forward to the opportunities that these network expansion projects will bring to the Greater Toronto Area.”

The expansion in Toronto is part of a larger update to Zayo’s in-demand markets across North America, which includes the introduction of bespoke packaged solutions, the bundling of Internet and security services, and the availability of dedicated Internet service with DDoS protection. Advanced detection and mitigation methods are provided by Zayo’s cloud-based DDoS Mitigation Service. On Zayo’s worldwide, secured, Tier 1 IP network, the mitigation service provides monitoring and DDoS attack prevention and mitigation.
