US-based Zayo Group plans to open a colocation facility in Miami. Zayo Group’s colocation business unit, zColo, will lease part of a Digital Realty Trust (DRT) data center, located at 36 NE 2nd St. in downtown Miami. The colocation facility will be completed in the first quarter of 2014.
It is zColo’s first location in Miami, joining other recent zColo expansions in the Seattle, Austin, Phoenix and Chicago markets. The data center investment in Miami includes building a high-count fiber ring to connect the DRT data center to the NAP of the Americas at 50 NE 9th St., opening up network access for other key facilities in the Miami central business district. The new colocation facility provides in-building access to 15 major carriers.
zColo will occupy 24,000 square feet of colocation space on the 7th floor of the DRT building, supporting up to 4 megawatts of utility power with a fully redundant (N+1) power and cooling infrastructure. The facility will be staffed locally to provide remote hands solutions, and will be monitored by Zayo’s 24×7 network control center.
The addition of this Miami colocation facility follows Zayo’s recently announced expansion of longhaul connectivity in the southeast region, bringing Richmond, Raleigh, Tampa and Orlando onto the Zayo network, and providing diverse connectivity into Miami. It would expand zColo’s bandwidth infrastructure options in the market for voice, video and data traffic servicing South and Central America.
“Miami’s significance to Latin American regions and growth as a critical data center market made it an expansion target for zColo,” said Greg Friedman, vice president of zColo. “Besides enabling data traffic between Latin American and domestic customers, this new investment allows regional customers to access our US and European fiber network.”
US-based Zayo Group was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with European headquarters in London. With its acquisitions of USCarrier, FiberGate and AboveNet, Zayo’s network now includes 75,954 route miles, spanning 45 states in the US as well as major cities in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Netherlands. zColo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zayo Group and provides carrier-neutral colocation and interconnection services. The company operates 182,000 square feet of sellable space in 26 US data centers.
