Zayo Group, an international provider of bandwidth infrastructure services with 27 carrier-neutral colocation facilities across the US, has announced the expansion of its Mount Prospect, Ill., colocation facility, located at 800 E. Business Center Dr. in Chicago, Illinois. The company will add 20,000 square feet of datacenter floor space and 2 Megawatts of utility capacity.
zColo, Zayo Group’s colocation business, acquired the 82,000 square foot facility in August of 2013, At time of purchase, the site had approximately 12,000 square feet of developed data center space.
Recent network growth demands of two major customers prompted a $12 million infrastructure investment to further develop the colocation facility. zColo will now add 20,000 square feet of datacenter floor space and 2 Megawatts of utility capacity in a fully redundant N+1 environment, resulting in approximately 32,000 sq. ft. of total datacenter space and 4 Megawatts of utility power.
Chicago data centers
The expansion includes power and security system upgrades, redundant cooling systems, and a complete internal remodeling of the colocation facility, which would enable customers to access Zayo’s full suite of services and connect to other Chicago carrier hotels via Zayo’s dark fiber footprint. The expansion will be completed in August 2014.
Zayo’s clients can colocate in the zColo Mount Prospect data center, while retaining a virtual presence in zColo’s 600 S. Federal St. downtown Chicago colocation facility, or in 350 E. Cermak, using zColo’s Metro Interconnect solution. The Metro Interconnects provide zColo customers connectivity to critical Chicago peering points, internet service providers (ISPs), financial institutions such as the Chicago Stock Exchange and Mercantile Exchange, and other locations accessible via Zayo Group’s metro and long haul fiber network.
