Now SRE Everyone Else with CRE!

Liz Fong-Jones, Seth Vargo, and a mysterious guest are back again to describe how SRE shouldn’t stop at the walls of one organization. Customer Reliability Engineering (or CRE) at Google is a defined discipline that aims to teach the SRE practices and principles to external organizations.

CRE is closely related to many DevOps principles. CRE focuses on “reducing organizational silos”, but unlike the traditional definition of reducing the silo within the organization, it focuses on expanding collaboration between users and service providers. Additionally, it relates closely to “accepting failure as normal” by setting clear expectations with users about service availability. Lastly, it relates to “measuring everything” by sharing service level measurements in a single pane of glass between customers and platform providers. This is why we say class SRE implements DevOps.
