Prime, a company that develops and operates hyperscale and wholesale data centers in the United States and Europe, will be expanding into the Phoenix region with a five-building complex situated on 66.5 acres in Avondale. Prime Phoenix will have a critical power capacity of 210 megawatts and a space capacity of 1.3 million square feet.

The completion of the project would result in a high-density, environmentally friendly data center complex that is intended to offer support for hyperscale cloud service providers, major Internet brands, global technology enterprises, and enterprise-level businesses in the Fortune 500.

According to statements made by Prime’s Executive Vice President of Acquisitions, Chris Sumter, “Phoenix presents an incredible growth opportunity for Prime as a top-five, North American data center market with increasing demand from cloud and enterprise data center buyers. Phoenix will maintain its position for many years to come because to the appealing state tax incentives, electricity prices that are 16% to 18% below national averages, and a low risk of natural catastrophes. Through the effective enabling of increased power densities and reclaimed water, this initiative will deepen Prime’s commitment to sustainability and the growth of technology.”

Access to Local Carrier-Hotel MMRs

The Avondale site may be found in Maricopa County, only a short drive west of the Phoenix downtown area. Customers will have low-latency connection to local carrier-hotel meet-me rooms and Internet exchange points when they use dark fiber from the campus. The completion of the first data center on the complex is anticipated for the third quarter of 2025. This facility will provide the capacity-constrained market 260,400 square feet of space and 42 crucial megawatts of power.

Avondale’s Mayor Kenneth Weise says, “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Prime to Avondale. Avondale is well positioned to become a leading center for the next generation of technology thanks to Prime’s data center complex and an investment of more than two billion dollars. The building of each data center will result in the creation of hundreds of jobs, both permanent and temporary, which will, in turn, stimulate long-term, beneficial economic development for many years to come. In addition, the sustainable campus design is in line with the promises made by the municipal and state governments to the preservation of water resources, the enhancement of energy efficiency, and the expansion of the use of renewable energy.”

Customers will have access to clean energy that is generated entirely from renewable sources via Prime. In addition, the closed-loop cooling technology that will be used at each data center in Phoenix will help conserve millions of gallons of water when contrasted with evaporative cooling methods. As a consequence, the Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) would be close to zero, and 97% less water would be utilized compared to an equivalently sized residential area.
