This is a hitchhiker’s guide to new ways of operating service provider networks. Over the last three years Cisco has opened programming interfaces to its operating system so NCS, CRS, and ASR are fully open standards compliant with NETCONF/YANG. NfV and SDN became pillars of the new service provider open strategy and architecture where NfV orchestration and SDN controller technologies allow to connect services end to end. When it comes to the SP cloud, it allows not only execution of enterprise workloads but also hosting VNF functions to enable the creation of the virtualized service instances. The last piece is the InterCloud ecosystem that enables the SP environment to host the partner cloud. Learn how all these pieces come together for the service providers.
