Tapjoy Chooses Metacloud OpenStack to Power Its Global Analytics Platform

Ad-tech and monetization platform Tapjoy has chosen Metacloud to power the company’s new OpenStack-based private cloud environment. This deployment would support the acceleration and progress of Tapjoy’s Big Data algorithms, which help to drive real time decision-making that delivers the best content to their global audience.

private-cloud-tapjoy“We process billions of requests per day, and thousands of conversions per minute, which results in tens of terabytes per day that need to be processed by our Big Data infrastructure,” said Wes Jossey, Tapjoy System Engineer. “Supporting hundreds of millions of active users per month requires massive infrastructure.”

“Over the years, we had built out dedicated hardware alongside virtualized infrastructure in AWS,” added Jossey. “Once we realized that our capacity could grow by over 5X for the same cost as we were spending today by switching to our own private cloud solution, we knew we needed to find a partner to help make that dream a reality.”

Parallel to AWS

The Tapjoy team looked into their private cloud options and quickly discovered that OpenStack would be a great fit for their needs. Jossey continued, “OpenStack is such a nice parallel to AWS, and it didn’t take long for us to play around with it and realize it was going to work just fine for what we were looking to do.”

Jossey noted that private cloud has become a central part of a Tapjoy hybrid strategy. He says the company plans on using the public cloud to scale for variable traffic needs while relying on the Metacloud OnPrem solution to power their data-driven and base workloads.
