The $1 billion Chicago data center campus of Prime Data Centers, a company that offers data center solutions and is experiencing significant expansion, has officially broken ground at 1600 East Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. At full build-out, ‘Prime ORD’ will provide more than 750,000 square feet and 175 megawatts of power, establishing the biggest data center complex in the Greater Chicago area.

The first of three campus data centers that are being planned, ORD-01, will be marketed as a single-tenant, hyperscale data center to Fortune 500 companies, major cloud providers, and international businesses on the Internet.

“The partnership between Elk Grove Village and the data center industry has led to unprecedented growth and positive economic impact”, said Nicholas Laag, Founder and CEO of Prime Data Centers.

The tax incentive program in Elk Grove Village and the rise in local demand presented Prime Data Centers with a special opportunity. Prime ORD-01 will provide the constrained market with 384,000 square feet and up to 72 megawatts of much-needed capacity. The building will be very energy-efficient and constructed to meet the strict availability, connection, and power density specifications of today’s leading cloud businesses.

“On behalf of everyone at Prime, I would like to thank Elk Grove Village and the numerous contractors and team members involved in readying ORD-01 for groundbreaking,” said Nicholas Laag, Founder and CEO of Prime Data Centers. “The partnership between Elk Grove and the data center industry has led to unprecedented growth and positive economic impact. Looking ahead, we will continue to partner with forward-thinking governments, executing on an aggressive, multinational expansion plan that will establish Prime as the data center foundation for the global proliferation of content creation and cloud solutions.”

Illinois – Attracting Data Center Companies

Through data center creation and optimization, the firm collaborates with digitally oriented businesses including cloud providers, colocation providers, Internet businesses, and tech-savvy enterprises to improve application performance and customer experience.

“I couldn’t be happier to welcome our new neighbors at Prime Data Centers to Illinois as they break ground on their Chicago data center campus,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “We aren’t just the heart of the Midwest – we are a national leader in innovation and business growth, in large part thanks to companies like Prime.
