group.ONE, the parent company of one.com – one of the largest web hosting providers in Scandinavia – and Hostnet.nl, has acquired WP Media. This company specializes in WordPress-based website performance optimization. The company serves more than thousands of customers worldwide through its WordPress plugins WP Rocket, Imagify and RocketCDN.

Founded in Lyon, France, in 2013 by Jonathan Buttigieg and Jean-Baptiste Marchand-Arvier, WP Media and its WP Rocket WordPress caching plugin are well-known within the WordPress community and web hosting industry.

More than 1,5 million WordPress websites are currently using the WP Rocket caching plugin, while the Imagify WordPress plugin has more than 400,000 active installations, and more than 6,500 websites are using the newly launched RocketCDN plugin.

WP Media will continue to operate as an independent brand. All employees will remain with the company. Following the purchase of Finnish web hosting company Zoner in 2020, the acquisition of WP Media is the second WordPress focused acquisition for group.ONE. It is the company’s eighth acquisition in total. Financial details about the acquisition were not disclosed.

“Web performance is closely linked to hosting. We knew that if we wanted to fully achieve our mission, we had to partner with a well-known hosting entity,” stated WP Media co-founders Jean-Baptiste Marchand-Arvier and Jonathan Buttigieg in a blog on their website.

WordPress Community, Web Hosting

“A few months ago, we started to talk with group.ONE, the parent entity of several brands including one.com, one of the largest web hosts in Scandinavia. In the course of our conversations, it was clear that we shared the same passion for excellence, ambition, customer-centricity, and our company values were very aligned,” stated WP Media co-founders Jean-Baptiste Marchand-Arvier and Jonathan Buttigieg in a blog on their website. “Web performance is closely linked to hosting. We knew that if we wanted to fully achieve our mission, we had to partner with a well-known hosting entity. We noticed a lot of synergies between our two brands, and many things we and the WordPress ecosystem could benefit from. We saw this as another opportunity for us to help even more people have a blazing-fast website.”

“Our entire team, including the co-founders, will stay the same,” WP Media’s co-founders added. “We’ll continue to hire talented people to help us make the web faster. We’ll continue to develop and maintain Imagify, WP Rocket and RocketCDN, and we have a lot of exciting plans to improve and make our product even better. We’ll keep getting involved in the WordPress community – and there’s big news coming about WP Media’s contribution. We’ll keep working with our precious partners and recommending the best web hosting services.”
